When Reagan told us she had to go to the DMV in Wilmington, NC, none of us thought it would turn into a full-on One Tree Hill pilgrimage. So Isabella, Emilia, Reagan, and I piled into the car early one weekend morning—and that’s how our mini‑adventure began.
After dropping Reagan off at the DMV, the rest of us got coffee and plotted our route through Tree Hill territory—starting with some legendary spots along the Historic River District. The mood was 2000s nostalgia from the moment we parked downtown.
First stop: the iconic 6th Street Bridge over the Cape Fear River. Walking across it felt like stepping into the show’s opening sequence. Isabella stood in the center, holding an imaginary basketball, while I played back Gavin DeGraw in my head, channeling my inner Lucas Scott There’s No Place Like Oz+14Wilmington & Beaches+14Elite Daily+14Wilmington & BeachesElite Daily.
Next, we headed to the famous bench where Nathan and Haley had their first storytelling tutoring session. It sits along the Riverwalk next to the visitor center. Fans have scrawled quotes all over it—so of course we added our names in Sharpie before snapping photos
From there, we took a drive-by tour of character homes:
We admired the building used as Karen’s Café (and later Brooke Davis’s boutique Clothes Over Bros). Now it’s a coffee shop, but the exterior immediately felt familiar—even if the inside had changed

We drove over to Battleship Park across from the USS North Carolina to find the old River Court filming site. Though the actual court is gone, the view across the water had us all pausing in awe. Reagan joked she’d recruited us to shoot hoops in spirit

After lunch, we headed to Greenfield Park—the setting for Lucas and Peyton’s wedding—and then to Airlie Gardens, where dreamy azalea scenes and fantasy montages from the show were filmed. Walks through the gardens felt like walking through a familiar memory

We wrapped the afternoon with dinner by the waterfront, swapping favorite OTH moments and playlists on repeat. What started as a DMV errand ended as a full‑blown trip to show us that Wilmington really can feel like Tree Hill—especially with friends beside you.
